This week I am FINALLY starting to paint my office. I used to think painting was a big part of a renovation project but now I understand it’s really just a finishing touch compared to electrical, insulation, built-in cabinetry and new windows. All of these got involved in my office makeover, which was basically just a drafty, brick box with a creepy crawlspace when we started. But it’s been reimagined and brought back to life. Here are a few of the elements I’m looking forward to.
#1 – A print gallery. I can finally put up some of my favourite pieces and photos and get to see them every day. The picture rail is a great idea for versatility. Then you’re not completely committed to a specific layout.
#2 – Eames chair! I cannot wait to get my Scandinavian style on with a new chair. I’ll be adding a sheepskin and some lumbar support of course. Side-note: when your office is in a century old building, rolling chairs are no longer an option. Unless you want to constantly roll into or away from your desk!
#3 – Sexy Organization. That’s right, well styled and organized spaces do it for me. I can’t wait to get some simple shelves up and categorize the hell out of my files and favourite finds. I love the wire baskets and the rustic feel the wooden crates add.
#4 – Corner Seat. I’ve always wanted an office with a great chair in one corner. Somewhere I can park myself to read or look through books and magazines for inspiration. I guess visitors can sit too…
#5 – Plant Life. I’m lucky to have lots of natural light coming into the space so I’ll be able to keep some green friends around, hopefully for more than a month or two.
