Style Bee - Look 04 - Proportions

Today’s post was meant to be the next one in the Closet Mission series but I’m still ironing out the first step in the Clarify and Define stage. It’s gonna be great, just not quite yet!

So instead I’m sharing a look that is a bit outside my comfort zone, despite it actually being quite comfortable. I usually stick to one oversized element and then match it with something more fitted but I thought what the hell, let’s go all oversized!

Thanks to my current shopping fast I’ve had a chance to explore different combinations and forgotten pieces from my closet. I’ve had these wide-leg pants since 2008 and they’ve somehow managed to escape several closet purges despite the rarity of their use. I bought them during a solo trip to New York and they were 60% off at this amazing little boutique in SOHO (which has since closed, WAH!). They represent one of my first majorly independent trips and style savvy purchases, so I think that’s given them some staying power. I decided to take them for a modern-day spin with a few of my current closet staples.

In all honestly, I think I’ll pair them with a more fitted or slightly less slouchy top next time but that’s a big part of this mission, trying things out and assessing whether or not they work for me. I still really like the chic, bohemian vibe of this look and I’ve managed to mentally reinvest in a great pair of pants. I can’t wait to wear them with clogs, a simple white tee and big ol’ sunglasses when warmer weather eventually rolls around.

So tell me, have you tried any new combos during your shopping freeze?

Thanks so much Lee, that is entirely helpful! And I’m totally agreed on loving Cuyana’s business philosophy. I have been eying the Transport Tote, but it’s really hard to beat made in the USA. 🙂

    Hi Lee!

I’d love to know more about your Cuyana tote. How do you like it? How is the leather quality? And how does that shade of camel look in real life? Is it more tan or more cognac?

    Thank you! 🙂

I can honestly say this tote is one of my favourites! It was a toss up between this and the Madewell Transport but I really like Cuyana’s business philosophy and that they’re made in US. It’s held up very well over the past couple years and I’m not super careful with it haha. The colour in this post is very close to real life. It’s exactly the same as they show on their site, a true caramel. I love that it goes with every neutral imaginable and looks amazing with black too. Hope that helps!

I just adore this outfit! It’s got such a vintage feel, with a modern take. So perfect and inspiring!!!

That sweater looks so cozy & comfortable Lee! I’ve never bought anything from Aritzia, but I feel like that will change this year. Any thoughts on their sizes or what brands to shop?
I haven’t found anything new or wear, but I have discovered I wear even less than I previously thought, and I’am really enjoying not shopping! I did another purge this week and got rid of another bag of clothes yesterday, it feels great. It’s definitely helped define my style, made me realize I have so many clothes (it’s all about comparison for me…). What are you working on? What’s your plans for february? Hope you’re off this weekend. 🙂

Thanks Jodie! It;s funny because Aritzia originated in Canada and was sort of a tweeny brand for ages. Since I was in high-school they’ve totally changed things up and their US launch was a big success. I have quite a few of their pieces now and particularly like their in-house brand Wilfred. Tons of gorgeous fabrics and drapey fits. I find their small is usually good for me. A touch oversize, which I love. I’d say they’re on par with Madewell quality but a bit dressier.

That’s great about your closet purging and style defining! I’m finding the same thing and totally agree that if feels great to take a long breather from shopping. xo

Oh my goodness, I love this outfit! I keep seeing wide-leg jeans popping up everywhere and I think it’s a sign I need some of my own!

Great winter styling of these pants! You look cuddly – like you’re ripe for hugging. I’m glad you’ve also schemed a way to fit these into warmer weather, too.
