Style Bee - Fall Uniform #1

MY FALL UNIFORM

09.19.16

I’ll try to keep today’s post brief since it is indeed Monday and they tend to be a bit of a nuisance. So getting straight to the point, this is my first Fall uniform. I used to hate this idea because I wore a uniform all throughout my lower and high school years, but I’ve since warmed up to a much more liberal take on the concept. It seriously makes getting dressed so easy it’s kind of ridiculous.

Establishing my go-to looks each season usually takes a while (and some trial and error) but not this time! Before Fall has even really started I’ve already found one ‘uniform’ I love. I mean I never thought I’d have 1 long vest, let alone 2, but here we are! I’ve got to give credit to my Fall Closet Prep and Wish List for keeping my head straight and helping me add pieces slowly and deliberately.

This particular Fall Uniform is great because it suits all sorts of body types and I dare say it’s pretty age proof too! It’s made up of 5 simple elements, which are:

1 | Long Open Vest

Now, I’ve heard a lot of people say they’re too short to wear a long vest and I get why you’d think so but actually, I think they make everyone look taller. You just need to choose the right one. If you’re in doubt you can always have it hemmed to just below the knee, which is a universally flattering and elongating length. (short version linked below)

“But you already have the Keaton Duster,” you say. Correct you are and I totally realize that having two of the same item isn’t exactly ‘lean closet 101’ but my argument is that if you can’t get enough of a certain style you should just embrace that fact and roll with it. I’ve denied myself items so many times over the last 2 years that now I can really recognize when it’s OK to concede and add something.

2 | Sweater

This one happens to be more of a t-shirt than a sweater but I love that it’s got a bit of weight to it (hello wool!) and feels cozy and much more substantial than a basic tee. Haley (Only Child) finds so many amazing fabrics!

3 | High Rise Jeans

I wanted to shoot this look with white skinnies but alas, they were in the wash, so I opted for an all black base to let the vest and accessories stand out. When in doubt, all black, always.

4 | Ankle Boots

I’ll confess, I’ve got more ankle boots in my closet than I really need, but I promise that I actually do wear them all. The Newbury Boot by Rag & Bone is so comfy you almost forget you’re wearing 3.5 inch heels. These are going on 5 years old now and unfortunately they stopped making them in the USA but I haven’t stopped wearing this pair.

5 | 1-3 Accessories

I just can’t help but love how a wide-brimmed hat polishes off a look. It always seems to add some interest and adventure to whatever it’s paired with. As you may know, Janessa Leoné makes my faves. A minimal watch adds a subtle but notable detail and this oversize, textural clutch was the last thing I reached for and it totally did the trick.

Et Voila! 1 super simple but totally presentable Fall outfit!

And that’s the first Fall uniform I’ll be wearing for the foreseeable season ahead! Have you noticed any tendencies towards a certain look lately? I’d love to know!

Yea, I tended to stray away from multiples as they weren’t diverse enough, but I realized it was part of my daily work from home uniform. Well made, soft tees and high waisted jeans all day every day 🙂

Ah, you just described a favourite outfit 🙂 I work from home too! People always ask why I don’t just wear sweatpants but I find it’s key to get dressed and into a working mindset. When I stay in sweats all-day I end up feeling blah. xo

Love this look on you! You look so willowy and graceful. I haven’t established any semblance of a fall uniform yet because it’s still hot as balls in the middle of the day here. 🙁 I’ll wear a sweater in the morning only to change into a swim suit later because it’s 100 degrees F.

    • Lee the Bee says:

Ah, you are so sweet Emily! Thank babe 🙂 I hear you, it only feels like Fall in the morning or late at night right now but I’ll be damned if I’m not 100% ready when it’s here from real haha! xo

This is such a great fall uniform! I purchased a duster style vest for my fall wardrobe, and I can’t wait for the weather to cool enough for layers!
