AUGUST OUTFITS – LOOK 9

08.14.19

Hi hi hi! Today, I’m excited to share how I’m styling my go-to camping shoes, the black Teva Original Universal sandals, for a regular day look!

This post is not at all in partnership with the Teva brand. I bought these sandals myself this summer (to replace a 10 yr old pair I kept for painting and yard projects) and have found them so comfy that I wanted to wear them beyond just camping and outdoor adventuring. I hope this post might help you see more potential in any utility-style sandals you have too!

I used to keep pretty hard boundaries between the different sections in my closet but these days I’ve been letting them loosen up more. Camping items can enter day-to-day and vice versa. I’m finding that, like much of life, when restraint stops serving a positive purpose it’s okay to let go a little.

TODAY’S TOPIC: HOW I STYLE MY TEVA SANDALS FOR EVERYDAY

There’s no question that the Teva brand has made a major comeback, due in no small part to their influencer marketing and heavy music festival presence. For so long I’d perceived Teva as the nerdy 90’s sandal of kids, Dads and camp councillors (I lived in a purple pair growing up) but once I realized that they could be styled in more versatile ways I was able to see potential for them within my own closet.

Here’s how I work the pair I have into my everyday style:

1 – SIMPLIFY THE PALETTE – By keeping the colour palette black and white with only a bit of warm neutral texture, the look feels clean and deliberate. Adding a touch of additional black and white through the scarf on my bag gives it an added dose of interest.

2 – CROPPED ON TOP + BOTTOM – Because the straps are quite significant I make sure I pair these sandals with a cropped pant so my ankles show. Wearing a high waist with a cropped tee creates a longer leg so the visual weight of the sandal is balanced too.

3 – EASY HAIR STYLE – A simple ponytail works with this outfit because it’s not over styled but it still feels a little bit polished.

I love this look for busy summer days or weekend adventures. I might even wear it this weekend to a local music festival!

MORE TEVA STYLING IDEAS:

While Teva is not particularly transparent about their production partners (the originals are made in China), I do think they’re doing a good job of being inclusive in their IG marketing and make a product that’s relatively accessible financially and intended to last. I’d love to see them prioritize sustainability more in their materials and production in the future.

Just read your Day 10 post and saw that you were feeling like your outfits were lackluster, but this week has been my favorite of the August series so far! I really like when bloggers show how they dress for less glamorous events while still maintaining their personal style and not having a whole closet dedicated to that one section of their life.

That’s great to hear Mari, thank you for the encouragement! I totally agree that it’s fun to see how personal style translates into less typical occasions. Thanks for reading! xo
