Style Bee - Fall - Look 6

I’ve received a lot of questions and comments about this Everlane striped tee, so I figured it’s about time to do a mini review and answer some of the questions I’ve been getting most often. So here goes:

QUESTIONS

  1. What size did you get? I am wearing a size Small (for reference I am 5’7” and about 120 lbs) and I always* order a size Small from Everlane. *with the exception of a cashmere sweater that I wanted to fit loose and purchased in a M.
  2. How does Everlane sizing compare to Madewell? I get this question all the time and I find the two brands fit relatively similar, however I will occasionally buy XS in Madewell items that are intentionally oversized. But a size small from either brand is usually a safe bet for me and I much prefer a fit that is a bit big over one that’s too snug.
  3. How is the length? Length preference on tops is highly subjective. This top is a cropped length and the sleeves are cropped too. I wear high rise jeans and I also plan on layering this shirt over white blouses so the length, for me, is ideal. The extra inch at the back is great too.

REVIEW

The fact that I included this top in my Fall Foundation capsule is evidence enough that I really like it. I’d been patiently awaiting the release of this shirt from Everlane as I much prefer black and white stripes to navy and white (which are more common) and I was looking for a heavier weight cotton, cropped length and crew neck (not boat neck!). This little number fit the bill perfectly and I bought one in both the thick black stripe and the thick white stripe. I’ve already worn these two tops a TON this season but here is my review breakdown on The Boxy Striped Tee.

1 – FIT

  • Slightly oversize and structured.
  • Cropped length.
  • Intentionally boxy but the fabric has some movement.
  • Hi-low hem is a nice detail and adds a touch of extra coverage on the back.

2 – FABRIC

  • 100% Cotton.
  • Heavy-weight, 2-ply cotton so it’s warmer than a typical cotton tee and can be layered like a sweater.
  • Soft and comfortable.

3 – DETAILS

  • Side vents/slits come up fairly high but add interest and are key for movability.
  • 2 inch hem anchors it to fall nicely over any layers underneath.
  • Drop shoulder is a unique detail that helps it feel relaxed and not bunchy.

4 – FINAL NOTES

  • Watch out when washing this item. I followed the care label and it still shrank slightly (about 5%).

OVERALL RATING

9/10 = HIGHLY RECOMMEND

    Hi Lee!

Love the review. I Love my Saint James striped tops, but you make a good point about the boatneck…i often wish they werent so I didn’t have straps showing!

Anyway, would you mind sharing what size you purchased in the black jeans? I’m thinking of investing and I am also 5′ 7″, 120.

    Thank you 🙂

Hi Courtney! I’ve heard very positive things about Saint James striped tops but yeah, the boat neck is a deal breaker for me haha.

As for the jeans, I’m wearing a size 26, which honestly fits like it was made for me! After 5+ wears the waist gets a little stretched but with a wash everything is back to normal. You’ll love them! xo

Just as I suspected 🙂 Thanks so much!

This is a great example of a classic look done right- high quality materials and unique styling. It’s clear you out so much thought into each piece! Good to know about the striped tee, I love the idea of layering it like a sweater. I unfortunately shrunk a shirt just like this a few months ago and have been contemplating getting another.

Thanks so much Kate! When your style is simple, the details and quality matter all that much more! Oh man, tragic realities of the dryer, stuff shrinks. Hope your week is off to a good start beauty! xo
