COMFY TIMELESS SPRING 10×10 CAPSULE

02.26.21

It’s been a minute since I shared a 10 x 10 here on the blog and while I don’t need any extra challenges in my life these days, a little structure does feel welcome. So rather than focusing on the 10 day aspect of the exercise I thought it would be fun to show a completed 10 x 10 capsule with all 10 items and 10 looks in one spot!

This comfy timeless spring 10×10 capsule is intended to serve as a foundation for building easy-going, yet, elevated work-from-home outfits that can take you from late winter into early spring.

This capsule feels like one of the most true-to-me I’ve created yet and I hope it gives you lots of inspiration and ideas for your own closet!

Let’s dig in to see the 10 comfy items I chose and the 10 looks I created with them!

A BIT ABOUT THIS 10×10 CAPSULE

Here in Ontario it’s looking as though we’ll be staying home for a considerable while longer, but that doesn’t mean we can’t embrace some spring style! Rather than playing the, “what I would wear if…” game, I wanted to put together a capsule that is genuinely practical for real life at home over the next couple of months.

This capsule is all about comfort with a focus on timeless styles that can be effortlessly mixed and matched. Looks that are realistic for now but easily transition to being out and about when the time finally comes.

While this is not a sponsored post, I always like to be transparent with you. This capsule was largely inspired by some pieces that the folks at Jenni Kayne sent for me to try out. Jenni Kayne is a designer and brand that I’ve long admired (learn more here), so I was thrilled for an opportunity to explore the line now that they offer international shipping.

There was no obligation for me to create a post featuring any of the pieces, however, I couldn’t wait to share them! I also felt that theses were the types of timeless styles that folks may already have to work with or be considering for future investment. In case something suits a need in your own closet, I’ve got a reader discount code (that doesn’t expire!) for you to use below.

While I’m still testing things out, I can tell you, the comfort and quality already feels top notch. Also, what better way to explore the versatility of new pieces than by putting them through the 10×10 test?

Now onto the items!

THE 10 PIECE

COMFY TIMELESS SPRING CAPSULE

Like I mentioned above, these are all classic pieces that can work for just about any closet. I’ve included lots of neutrals with a couple of rich browns, different denim washes and some texture to keep it interesting.

If you want more excitement in your capsule, you could swap out a neutral sweater for a stripe or a bolder colour. You could also switch one of the long sleeves, for a printed blouse or something a little more lively. Again, this is intended as a foundation capsule that could be used to build out a more dynamic closet.

I excluded outerwear since it’s an at-home focused capsule, plus, the weather where I live in March and April is always all over the map. You could need a parka one day and a jean jacket the next, so it’s best to keep those options open!

ITEMS 1 – 5

1 | SUEDE MULE IN SADDLEgifted – Jenni Kayne – TTS I wear a US 7/7.5 and the 37 fits perfectly – Use LEE15 for 15% Off

I’m so excited to be testing these out after lots of folks have asked for my thoughts on this cult favourite from Jenni Kayne. My first impression is that they hold my foot better than any other mules I’ve tried. The elastic gusset makes them very easy to walk in and the streamlined shape is polished but very functional.

2 | 90’s CHEEKY STRAIGHT DENIM – Everlane – TTS for a relaxed fit. The wash I have is a couple of years old, but I’ve linked to a similar one that’s available now.

I debated swapping these for joggers but I’m really more of a jeans in the day, joggers at night, kinda gal. These are some of my comfiest jeans and I know lots of folks have something similar in their closet. They’re a forever staple for a reason!

3 | EVERYDAY SWEATER IN IVORYgifted – Jenni Kayne – TTS – Use LEE15 for 15% Off

I love fresh whites for any season and I’d been looking for a classic crewneck option to wear under jackets that is lightweight but still cozy. This one fit the bill perfectly. The ribbed cuffs and rolled-edge neckline add interest while the side split and slightly longer back hem is great for tucking or wearing loose.

4 | BLACK LONG SLEEVE CREW TEEgifted last year – Mott & Bow – TTS – USE LEE10 for 10% Off any first time order.

Fitted long sleeve shirts in soft cottons are definitely an essential in my closet. For this capsule I chose to go with both a black and a white option since they’re something that goes with any type of pant and any type of top layer. Not to mention, their magic sweater saving abilities, meaning, I don’t need to worry about washing my knits if I’ve worn a base layer underneath.

5 | CASHMERE COCOON CARDIGANgifted – Jenni Kayne – Oversized, I went down 1 size from my usual for a little less volume and it’s still quite roomy. – Use LEE15 for 15% Off

Could I really call it a comfy capsule without an oversize cardigan in the mix? Not in my books at least. This is the “hero” piece that every capsule needs and helps to steer the style overall. It goes with every single other item and can be styled a range of different ways. This one is so beautiful and adds an understated elegance to any look.

ITEMS 6 – 10

6 | BROWN LEATHER BELT – Madewell – TTS but generous so I sized down for a snug fit at my natural waist.

I don’t usually include accessories in my 10×10 count but this piece kept coming up while I was trying outfits so I decided to make it an official capsule member! Somehow a belt makes everything feel a little more put-together, which I tend to like when pairing more casual pieces.

7 | SHEARLING LINED MOC CLOG IN NATURALgifted – Jenni Kayne – I wear a US 7/7.5 and the 38 fits great with or without socks – Use LEE15 for 15% Off

I’d been searching for the perfect non-slipper slipper, if that makes sense. These cozy but structured clogs are precisely what I’d been hoping to find. The inner shearling is so warm, while the cork foot bed offers support and insulates from the cold ground. I like that the sole is sturdy enough to wear outdoors as well.

8 | WHITE MICRO-RIB LONG SLEEVE TEE – Everlane – TTS for a snug fit

I really don’t know what I’d do without fitted long sleeve base layers. A white crew neck is my go-to for keeping the warmth in while easily layering under knits. I could have gone for a button up or another style of shirt, but these are what I really want to be in when I’m just working away at home.

9 | GREY JEANSsold out – Linked to a similar fit and wash.

These were a fall 2020 addition and I’m so glad I went for a grey wash. These jeans offer a true high rise, which elongates the leg but they’re cut such that they’re still very comfortable to sit and move in.

10 | CASHMERE FISHERMAN HOODIEgifted – Jenni Kayne – TTS for a roomy fit – Use LEE15 for 15% Off

This is my “wildcard” piece in the capsule because I haven’t worn anything quite like it before and I was excited to try it out. Hoodie’s are a style I’ve only just warmed up to over the past year and now that I’ve tried this one, I may be spoiled for life. The softness and texture of the cashmere is a dream and the fit is everything you want with beautiful drape and a contemporary cut.

NOW ONTO THE 10 LOOKS I CREATED

I kept the looks pretty simple with minimal styling to extend the approachable feel of the capsule into the final outfits. They might not have as broad a range as past 10×10 capsules but there are little moments and details in each one that stand out to me.

LOOK 1

I started with this look because it has essentially been my work-from-home uniform for the last many years. Fitted tee, tucked into comfy jeans, under a cozy cardigan with slippers. No reinventing any wheels here, just wearing what feels good!

COCOON CARDIGAN & SHEARLING LINED MOC CLOG (use ‘LEE15’ for 15% Off) / BLACK LONG SLEEVE (use LEE10 for 10% Off) / 90’S CHEEKY JEANS / CANADA SCARF (on chair)

LOOK 2

For the second look I swapped the blue jeans and clogs for my grey denim and mules. I added a belt for some structure and created a faux crop by folding the bottom hem of my jeans under. I also rolled the sleeves of the cardigan and pushed them up higher on my forearm for a slightly more “styled” feel.

COCOON CARDIGAN & SUEDE MULE IN SADDLE (use ‘LEE15’ for 15% Off) / BLACK LONG SLEEVE (use LEE10 for 10% Off) / KIM COMFORT FIT JEAN / BROWN LEATHER BELT / CANADA SCARF (on chair)

LOOK 3

For the next outfit, I slid back into the cozy clogs, flipped the cuff of my jeans from inside to out, and pulled on the the cashmere hoodie. I left the sleeves long and did an easy side tuck into the unbelted waist of my jeans.

CASHMERE FISHERMAN HOODIE & SHEARLING LINED MOC CLOG (use ‘LEE15’ for 15% Off) / KIM COMFORT FIT JEAN / CANADA SCARF (on chair)

LOOK 4

Next up, I swapped my black long sleeve for the white one, left my grey denim long, and added the brown belt and mules. I wrapped the hoodie over my shoulders for a bit of coziness and textural interest.

CASHMERE FISHERMAN HOODIE & SUEDE MULE IN SADDLE (use ‘LEE15’ for 15% Off) / WHITE LONG SLEEVE / KIM COMFORT FIT JEAN / / BROWN LEATHER BELT / CANADA SCARF (on chair)

LOOK 5

Look 5 is the one I first had in my head as I was planning this capsule. I think it’s one of those truly classic outfits, that can work for any stage in life. However, if we’re building off of the previous outfit, I simply swapped the grey jeans for the blue ones and switched from a hoodie over my shoulders to the open cardigan.

COCOON CARDIGAN & SUEDE MULE IN SADDLE (use ‘LEE15’ for 15% Off) / WHITE LONG SLEEVE / 90’S CHEEKY JEANS / BROWN LEATHER BELT / CANADA SCARF (on chair)

LOOK 6

Next up, we’ve got the low-key version of Look 5. By omitting the belt and buttoning the cardigan the look takes on a whole new silhouette. I switch the mules for the slippers and pulled up the cardigan sleeves so that the white shirt cuffs would peek out beneath. I love how this detail mimics the white shearling peeking out of the clogs.

COCOON CARDIGAN & SHEARLING LINED MOC CLOG (use ‘LEE15’ for 15% Off) / WHITE LONG SLEEVE / 90’S CHEEKY JEANS / CANADA SCARF (on chair)

LOOK 7

I’m always amazed when I get to the 7th outfit, that I still have a piece I haven’t used in any looks yet. In this case it’s this ivory crewneck sweater. I absolutely LOVE the warm white of this piece and how the ribbed cuffs and rolled edges elevate such a simple style. For this look, I wanted those details to shine so I kept the styling ultra simple and simply added a gold pendant necklace.

EVERYDAY SWEATER & SHEARLING LINED MOC CLOG (use ‘LEE15’ for 15% Off) / 90’S CHEEKY JEANS / GOLD PENDANT NECKLACE / CANADA SCARF (on chair)

LOOK 8

To dress up this jeans and sweater combo, I tucked the sweater in, swapped the cogs for mules, and added the cardigan over my shoulders. A brown leather headband also adds a touch of polish. This one has such a ladylike feel to it, while still being easy-going.

COCOON CARDIGAN & EVERYDAY SWEATER & SUEDE MULE IN SADDLE (use ‘LEE15’ for 15% Off) / 90’S CHEEKY JEANS / GOLD PENDANT NECKLACE / LEATHER HEADBAND (on sale) / CANADA SCARF (on chair)

LOOK 9

Look number 9 is essentially the same as Look 3, but with blue jeans instead of grey jeans and a front tuck instead of a side one (I know, HUGE change, haha). This one is super relaxed and comfy without feeling sloppy or blah.

CASHMERE FISHERMAN HOODIE & SHEARLING LINED MOC CLOG (use ‘LEE15’ for 15% Off) / 90’S CHEEKY JEANS / / CANADA SCARF (on chair)

LOOK 10

For the 10th look from this capsule, I repeated outfit number 2 and swapped the cardigan for the crewneck sweater over the shoulders and tied in front. I do think that this simple switch makes for a big difference and love how the ivory sweater gives the look a fresh feel to it.

EVERYDAY SWEATER & SUEDE MULE IN SADDLE (use ‘LEE15’ for 15% Off) / BLACK LONG SLEEVE (use LEE10 for 10% Off) / KIM COMFORT FIT JEAN / BROWN LEATHER BELT / CANADA SCARF (on chair)

Here’s a look at all 10 Outfits together so you can see how they vary and the little changes that make them each feel unique.

Hi Lee! Love this post. Wondering what size you take in the fisherman hoodie? Trying to decide on mine now, thanks so much!

    • Lee the Bee says:

Thanks Sheila! I wear a Small in the fisherman hoodie and it’s still quite roomy (which I love!). Wearing it right now actually! It’s so cozy ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Margaret says:

Hi Lee, I always enjoy your posts. I’m wondering if you could do a roundup/comparison of the fitted long sleeve tees that you have? I agree with you that they are a closet staple and would love to invest in a few more after some more research.

  3. Sarah says:

Hi Lee! I love reading your blog and really admire your style. Did you cutoff the Everlane cheeky straight jeans in this post? I have to say, I LOVE mine – have them in all washes – but I hate how long they are and I’m not a fan of rolling my jeans up (maybe because it reminds me that I’m short – 5’3″). I’ve just never thought to cut them… but it looks like you did, and they look fabulous! If you did cut them, can you let me know what you cut them to as a reference? An inch above your ankle? Thanks so much! <3

    • Lee the Bee says:

Hi Sarah, Thanks for the kind words about my blog! Yes, you’re absolutely right, I cut the hems off of these jeans. I’d been cuffing mine to about an inch above the top of my ankle bone and finally decided to just chop them off because I didn’t love the look of it either. I used a pair of very sharp fabric sheers to ensure a clean cut. When the fraying gets a little too much I just trim the threads and that cleans things up nicely. I say go for it for sure! xo

  4. Chris says:

    Love these timeless neutral combos!
It’s the kind of dressing I feel the best in.
    ๐Ÿ™‚ Chris

  5. Martine says:

Hi Lee, love the cardigan since I saw it on another blog in january. I already started saving because as so many others already mentioned: the price tag is impressive. But it has everything that I’m looking for in a cardigan and I’m sure that it will be a a forever piece in ones closet. And I love all the colours in which it comes. That
will give me a hard time to decide which colour I would like to have. Such warm tones and easy to match with everything. I’m curious how your experience will be and if you can say after some months that it’s worth it’s high price. So I hope you will give us an up-date at some point ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Eden says:

Adore you! Adore the shearling mocs… But $375 is just too much. Even 15% off. They’re not a “forever” shoe – the price point is obscene. But they look great on you!

    • Lee the Bee says:

Thanks for the love Eden ๐Ÿ™‚ I appreciate your feedback on price point. This is definitely something I keep in mind when working with brands and I know Jenni Kayne’s price point is high compared to some of the brands I’ve shared. I’m going to see how these pieces hold up for a while before I try anything else from the brand. I’ll keep an eye out for more approachable options as well. Thanks for reading, I hope this capsule post is useful otherwise! xo

  7. CoUrtney says:

I have always admired Jenny Kayneโ€™s pieces. I wish the price points werenโ€™t so hard to swallow. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

    • Courtney says:

There is literally a stump for sale on her website for $995!

    • Lee the Bee says:

This made me laugh, I guess there are some folks who have very specific stump standards ๐Ÿ˜›

    • Lee the Bee says:

Thanks for reading Courtney! I definitely appreciate your note about Jenni Kayne’s price point. I’ve had quite a few questions about the brand quality over the years so I’m interested to see how the pieces age and perform. Time shall tell and I’ll keep sharing more approachable options going forward for sure. xo

  8. Kylie says:

Iโ€™m so inspired by this 10×10! I love the simplicity of the looks and can definitely recreate many of them with similar staple pieces in my closet. Iโ€™ve also been eyeing Jenni Kayne for some time, but your endorsement might just solidify my need to try that cocoon sweater. Thank you!

    • Lee the Bee says:

So happy you’re feeling inspired by this 10×10 Kylie! I’d been admiring that sweater for so long too, the cut and shape is so good and it’s got that perfect relaxed but not sloppy fit. The cashmere is incredibly soft so I’m curious to see how pilling goes with more frequent wear. Thanks for reading and letting me know your thoughts on the post! xo

  9. Rebecca says:

    That ribbed hoodie is gorgeous!!

  10. Alexis says:

Always such a pleasure to see your 10×10 capsules! Theyโ€™re always informative and have been a source of inspiration and this one is no different. This is truly a simple and timeless capsule – thanks for sharing!

  11. Monica says:

Hi Lee. Love this post and the subtle changes that allow lots of outfits from a few pieces!
Wondering if you can also share where your anklet is from? It looks simple and easy to wear but a nice extra detail.
    Thanks, Monica

  12. Hanusia says:

What a fun surprise to see a new 10×10 post on your website! I love the simplicity and comfort of this capsule- it’s definitely inspiring me to do something similar in my wardrobe. And that cashmere hoodie looks to die for!
