Look 22 – Double Time

Style Bee - Double Time

The weather decided to take a look at the calendar and it finally started feeling like Fall this weekend. While there were a lot of frowns around town, I was pretty pumped because sweaters, layers and generally all things Fall are just my jam. A little while ago I got overzealous about the impending season and bought this waffle knit sweater only to find it was nowhere near cool enough to wear it until now. Having held off fow so long it’s pretty much all I feel like wearing right now so I thought I’d share a couple ways that I’m transitioning it from day to night so that I never have to take it off.

LOOK 1

My typical work day involves a lot of time at my desk, a few walks with my pup, a mission to the coffee shop and occasionally a breakfast or lunch meeting. This low-key, layered look is great for just about any task my day throws at me and it doesn’t get more casual-chic than jeans and a sweater. When I do a button-down under a sweater there are a couple of tricks that I like to employ to ensure I don’t feel too bulky. 1. I opt for a sleeveless button-down. 2. I size up for a looser fit in my sweater. 3. I leave the lowest (or sometimes the two lowest) buttons undone for movability. 4. I button the top button all the way up to keep the collar tidy. These little details make all the difference when it comes to wearing this classic look for Fall. I’m also kind of loving how my sweater and boots match but the textures are quite different. It’s a nice way to help this outfit look pulled together but not too stuffy.

LOOK 2

Once a week Dave and I try to make it out for a nice dinner at our favourite restaurant, Delhi Street Bistro, which is walking distance from our place. It’s nice to have an excuse to dress up a touch and get away from the house and my office. It doesn’t take a lot to elevate a simple sweater for me. A sleek but statement making skirt, some classic but slightly update pumps and a black clutch are really all I need to feel lady-like and elegant. A little front tuck and a little red lip pull it all together and we’re all set to enjoy our date night. I have a feeling this sweater is going to see way more than a few dinner dates this season!

Such perfect outfits for fall…love them both!

  2. Mun says:

The date look is especially lovely <3

  3. Natalie says:

love both looks! I have the same blouse and find it does layer wonderfully under sweaters! I’m thinking about getting those boots and am wondering what size you bought and if you think they run true to size? Thanks so much!

    • Lee the Bee says:

Thanks Natalie! I am usually a size 7 and have a 6.5 in these boots and they fit perfectly. I have pretty narrow insteps and heels though and I only wear little sockette or thin socks. I have had these for a couple years now and I still really love them! Hope that helps! xo

  4. Lia says:

Love this look, Lee! So perfect for fall. And thank you so much for the layering tips. I have tried many times to layer a sweater, but it always looks silly on me. I’ll have to give it another whirl this season.

Question – I’m bustier on top so when I try to layer a crewneck it looks like I’m being strangled haha. Are v-necks the way to go? Can you think of any bloggers that rock layering who are larger on top?

    • Lee the Bee says:

My pleasure Lia! I’ve found that I only feel comfortable in this type of layering when all the variables are working, otherwise I feel way too bulky and it’s just no fun.

I might try sizing up for sweaters that you know you’ll want to layer and that might help them feel a bit roomier. V-necks are definitely an option or the first two sweaters I linked to have a more open neckline that a typical crew so they make it easier to layer with a collared shirt. I follow Emily and Kendi who are both bustier women but they do a great job of dressing for their body types.

  5. Kate says:

Both of these looks are lovely! I’m crazy about layering button ups with anything, so I’m especially keen on the first look because that’s my uniform once the temperatures dip. That heather brown is perfect for any season, it’s brown enough for fall but gray enough for spring, I think. Lovely!

    • Lee the Bee says:

Thanks Kate! Glad someone else is as enthusiastic about dress shirt layering as I am 🙂 I thought the same thing about this sweater being applicable to any season. Nothing like a good neutral! xoxo

  6. Lizzy says:

Loving this! Especially the first look, perfect chic and minimal styling!!

  7. Jodie says:

I have been looking at and LOVE that sweater! It’s fabulous on you!
    What size did you get?

    • Lee the Bee says:

Thanks Jodie! It wasn’t on my list but I just loved the cut and texture of it. I usually get an XS from Madewell (as their stuff runs large) but I got a S in this so I could wear it over other things. Is it still online? I couldn’t find it anywhere! xo

One thing that’s amiss: the lip color/brand. Lovely!
