FOR DOBBY

03.20.22

My darling bear.

You left us on the morning of Friday, March 11th, 2022. You went quickly, your sweet snoot and big ears resting in my lap. I’m sorry I couldn’t give you more time. You gave us so much in your ten years.

You were an endless source of joy, friendship, laughter, and love. You still are and always will be.

For such a short fellow you occupied so much space in our lives. We lived to make you happy and you never let us down.

Thank you for the greatest chapter we could ever dream of. You lived life to the fullest and gave us the courage to chase our best life too.

Our fetching star, carrot croncher, local sheriff, snorthog, floof butt, sunbeam snoozer, canoe trip cruiser, hardwood hater, treat sniffer, adventure buddy. Our perfect angel bear. We will miss and love you always.

Until we’re together again, I hope you have a good sreep sreep and wake up to all the treats and fetches your magical heart could hope for.

Goodbye my good boy, we’ll see you soon.

DOBBY LOVED FETCH

And having a cronchy carrot afterwards.

You can still watch his fetches and carrot chomps for a hit of digital dopamine.

DOBBY LOVED THE NATURE

DOBBY & FRIENDS

Dobby was very selective about the company he kept. He preferred four-legged folks of a shorter stature and those who showed immediate respect. Once he’d decided you were trustworthy though, you had a friend for life.

DOBBY’S LIFE AT STEEP HILL COTTAGE

Seeing how much Dobby loved life at the cottage gave us the encouragement we needed to take the leap to full time lake living. I think it’s safe to say his last year was his best.

For my fellow animal folks, I can share that Dobby didn’t suffer long. His vet, who’d seen him just the day before, felt it must have been an unexpected pulmonary embolism that took him. Something we couldn’t have anticipated or done much, if anything, to prevent.

Dobby had enjoyed his favourite dinner and bedtime treats, and he had been fetching and frolicking with a friend only days before. Even though it was a terrible shock, and far too soon, I’m deeply grateful that he got to be at home, where he felt safe and loved, and that I got to tell him he was, “Such a good boy.” as he made his way.

So many of you have shared in the joy that Dobby brought to our lives. Thank you for making space in your time on Style Bee to enjoy this special soul with me. Hold your treasured friends close and let them know they’re loved every chance you get.

To all those who’ve commented below,

Your baby! I am so truly sorry, Lee 🙁

  2. Alice says:

Lee, I am so sorry to hear about Dobby’s passing. I have been a reader of your blog for years and have always loved the occasional Dobby pics you share. You and he inspired me to adopt my own corgi puppy last summer. Lucille is 10 months old now. She is a sassy, confident lady who does what the F she wants! I wish I could insert a picture here, but she’s red with a white face and has one blue eye and one brown eye. All the Dobby pictures in this post made me smile so much. His big, mischievous corgi grins are very familiar to me! I can tell from the pictures and your words how much personality he has and how much you and Dave love him. It’s clear he will be very missed. <3

  3. Mary Grogan says:

My heart goes out to you. There are no words adequate for the loss of a beloved pet.

    Ellen

Even though I don’t have a pet I could regularly keep up with Dobby. Like many of the other readers I’m sad to hear this news.
This post is such a wonderful tribute, lovely photos of excellent Dobby.Thinking of you two dog parents and fellow pet Evie at this sad time. Take care.

  13. Rebecca B | SEVEN2SEVEN8 says:

Dear Lee – I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve been reading for years and loved when Dobby popped into posts. We also had a corgi for 12 years, Llewy, who we lost in 2019 (he developed DM, and we trucked along with wheels and extra care until we couldn’t bear the risk of him suffering any longer and said goodbye). They are fabulous dogs and three years later, my heart is half blown coat for that silly and lovely dog. Wishing you comfort and peace.

    • Lee the Bee says:

Thanks for sharing about your sweet Lewy, Rebecca. He sounds so special. How lucky he was to have you stand by him through DM and all that comes with it. They are so resilient aren’t they? I can imagine the level of care required and how excruciating it would have been to make that decision. Corgi’s are truly something else. I’m so sorry for your loss too. Take care. xo

  14. Uta says:

Dear Lee, I’m so very sorry for your loss. We share our lives with a Welsh Corgi, too. She is nearly 16 and we are dreading a life without her. Take your time to grieve.
    Kind regards from Germany

  15. Erin says:

Oh Lee, I’m so deeply, deeply sorry for your loss. My fur baby passed 2 years ago, and as I read your tribute to Dobby, I can’t stop my own tears. I still grieve for my boy, and understand the pain you’re feeling now and I’m so sorry. But know you gave your boy the best life a dog could ever want, and how lucky he was / is to have your love. In my personal experience with losing my own beloved pup, I think you’ll find that your little bear is still with you, you’ll feel him beside you often. 🤍

    • Lee the Bee says:

Erin, I’m so sorry for your loss too. Your boy was lucky to share his life with you. Thank you for saying that, I think I’ll find that too. xo

Dear Lee, I am so sorry for your loss. Pets are family members and it is so hard to say good bye to them. I wanted to share that watching Dobby play fetch and enjoy carrots on Instagram was always a bright moment in my day. Oh no. You’ve let your readers into your life in such a generous way that I’m crying over Dobie as if I knew him first hand. Such a sweet boy. Thank you for sharing so much of him over the years and for the gentle and uplifting news that his last day was a good one. I’ll miss him!

  32. Jenn K says:

You put so much love into your words and the pictures you chose! I’ve lost a beloved puppy girl to cancer and I know how deep the grief is. Please be kind to yourselves.

  33. Miriam says:

Oh Lee, my heart breaks for you. I’m coming up on 1 year on this Wednesday that we had to say goodbye to our 14-year-old Sheltie, and I know the pain you and Dave are going through. I loved watching Dobby’s fetches and carrot chomps, especially as our Sheltie girl got slower in her last year and couldn’t fetch like Dobby still could. I’m glad that he was at home with you when he went, as that is the best place to be for them when they have to say goodbye.

    Hugs.

    • Lee the Bee says:

Oh Miriam, I’m so sorry about your sweet sheltie girl. I’ve always had a soft spot for them too. Something about a small herding dog is so special. xo

  34. Melissa says:

I’m so sorry, Lee. Sending Dobby big love for brightening our lives with his adventures whenever you shared them, and same to you for the grief you must be feeling to lose such a sweet pup.

  35. Tai says:

Lee, I am so sorry for your loss. I loved watching your and Dobby’s fetch and carrot chomping videos. They brought such a simple joy to a difficult time in 2020. Sending comfort to you and your family.

  36. Chloé Oternaud says:

    Hi Lee,
So sorry for your loss. It is a beautiful testimony of the life you & Dave shared with your Dobby. He must have been a very happy dog <3. Take care

  37. Hannah says:

So sorry for your loss, Lee. Dobby was clearly loved. It’s so hard to lose a pet friend, our truest and most faithful companions. Thinking of you.

  38. Shelly says:

Oh Lee, my heart broke when I saw this. Loosing a pet is one of life’s great challenges. I’m so sorry for your loss, and at the same time filled with joy in seeing this post, these images, and your wise and heart warming words. I wish all the best, and I will miss Dobby terribly in your digital space.
    Warmly, your long time reader

  39. Nicole says:

    Hi Lee,
I just want to say I’m so sorry for your loss. As a fellow dog mom I know the deep pain that losing a fur baby can bring.

Your one photo of Dobby where he has kind of jumped up to kiss your face reminded me of a very similar photo I have with my dog Bodger who passed away a few years ago and brought a smile to my face. I can certainly say that having such wonderful photos of Dobby will bring you many beautiful memories down the road, as it always has with my fur babies.

I am sure I can speak for all Style Bee readers when I say that we have so enjoyed getting to share a tiny part of Dobby with you; he seemed like a truly wonderful dog.

Please take the time you need to take care of yourself. Speaking from my own experience, I’ll be honest in saying that the loss never fully heals (although it gets easier), but the upside is that the memories never fade either.

    <3

    • Lee the Bee says:

Oh Nicole, thanks for such a kind message. I’m so sorry about your special Bodger. I sincerely appreciate the honesty and hope you’re doing well.

  40. Carly says:

I’m so sorry to hear about Dobby, Lee. He was such a beautiful little fellow and I can tell he had an amazing life with you! This was such a bittersweet post. Thank you for sharing his life with us.

  41. Anne says:

Oh Lee I am so sorry. Dobby was a joy to watch in your pages, he was such a cute boy. Your hommage to him is beautiful, full of love. I am sending you all lots of love in this very sad time.

  42. ABBY says:

Dear Lee – I’m so sorry. I noticed you hadn’t posted in a while and hoped everything was ok. I’m very sorry for your loss. I’m Jewish, and we have a saying when someone dies: may their memory be a blessing. I think it means that you bless them when you think of them, just like they blessed you when they were alive. May Dobby’s memory be a blessing. I’m keeping you and your family in my thoughts and heart.

    • Lee the Bee says:

Thank you for sharing this saying with me Abby, it’s beautiful. I’ve thought of it often this past week whenever I think of him or talk about him.

  43. Patricia says:

Hi Lee, what a beautiful tribute to your wonderful doggie Dobby. I’ve never had a pet (except for a rabbit when I was little), but I do understand that they become part of the family. It sounds like Dobby led a charmed life, and he was very lucky to have you.

  44. Emma says:

I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing Dobby with us over the past decade. He was a light!

  45. My heart dropped when I saw this post. Sweet Dobby. 💔 He was so loved and had such a wonderful life with you. I’m so sorry for your loss, Lee! That is the absolute worst part of being a pet parent, and as a mom to two senior cats, I’m absolutely dreading the day.

    • Lee the Bee says:

Thank you Kimi, I hope you have time to collect many more memories with your two felines. Cats are such special spirits in their own ways too. We’d have been lost without Evie this past little while. xo

  46. Susan says:

I am so sorry. I can see how much you loved that dog. Take time to grieve.

  47. Alyssa says:

Oh, Lee, I’m so sorry for your loss. This is such a beautiful tribute to him. I hope you’re taking care and being gentle with yourself. <3

    • Alaine says:

      Dear Lee,
It’s always so hard. Just thinkin about it can make me cry. They say the “bigger the love the greater the hurt.” This is true. I lost my SweetPea so unexpectedly years ago it still brings a lump in my throat. So I know just how you feel. Some say I won’t get another pet bc I never want to go thru the hurt again. I say you would be missing out on another love of your life. May your Dobby be at peace and you also knowing the joy you brought to one another. God Bless.

    • Lee the Bee says:

So true Alaine. I’m very sorry about your SweetPea. They really are the loves of our lives. It’s rare to find a love so unconditional or judgement-free but they never let us down. xo
