The light in my studio has been beautiful but fleeting lately, so you’ll have to excuse the slightly grainy photos. Honestly, I kind of like the added texture in these and felt it suited the vintage feel of this look. I wouldn’t even be surprised to see something like it in an actual photo from the 70’s. Flares, plaid and brown leather are some of my ultimate faves right now and pretty much timeless!

When it comes to mixing patterns I tread carefully but this plaid and these stripes were just begging to be together. So I played a little game of match maker and ended up being lone one who fell in love! I’m also pretty much convinced that the stars aligned to bring this jacket into my life. Elizabeth Geisler just launched Cocoon a beautiful collection of outerwear that is designed in Minneapolis and made in New York. Elizabeth uses some of the most stunning wool and cashmere fabrics and this perfect plaid was one of them. I immediately loved the cut of this coat in particular, especially the collar, the way it falls just past the hips and the placement of the single button closure. All simple but very elegant details.

I don’t know about you but coats are a big part of my daily existence for the better part of the year. That’s why I think it’s so important to have a couple on hand that really convey my personal style and actually keep me warm. Needless to say, this one does both! A coat shouldn’t be an afterthought when you’re putting together a look. It should be the finishing touch that brings it all together. Of course, they are an investment piece so it’s important to carefully consider the one that’s right for you. With snow in the forecast (gah!) I dare say it’s time to prepare for coat season yet again!
