Over the last month or so I’ve received lots of messages about dressing for cold weather. The general consensus has seemed to be that it’s hard to find style ideas for proper winter weather that don’t involve a puffy parka. Nothing against those of course, I wear mine all the time, but it’s nice to have some slightly sleeker options to brave the cold in as well.
This got me thinking and I decided to create a one-stop source of all my coziest winter outfits to date! I hope this will be a useful source for those who are looking to dress warm but maybe don’t want to surrender to winter’s typical uniform just yet.
Since this season doesn’t look the same everywhere I’ve included a variety of options for different temperature ranges. I’ve also been collecting some cold weather style inspiration for my own reference and felt that it would tie in nicely to this post as well. Oh, and all my winter closet favourites are in a little shop-able section at the end!
Winter dressing can certainly be a drag but if you approach it with some creativity and fresh eyes you might find it’s a season full of style possibilities. The best part? You probably already have everything you need right in your closet!

What is your go-to parka, Lee? I’m finding it so hard to find something unique, stylish and suitable for the deep winter cold (the -30C kinda stuff).
That’s a good question Andrea! For the last two years I’ve been alternating between my Everlane Puffer (0 to -10) and a Canada Goose Trillium Parka (-10 to -30 or lower) for the deep winter. They’re not really unique or stylish but they do the job. Next year I’m looking to invest in a long puffer like the CG Mystique to keep my knees cozy. Stay warm!!
I love all of these looks!!! What size and color do you have in the Wilfred Cocoon Coat? It’s so beautiful!
Does your Everlane cashmere turtleneck pullover pill? Some of the reviews report pilling, most of them don’t mention it. You’ve had yours awhile and so I am curious. Great post by the way!
Hi Anne, Did you get my email yesterday? I’ve been so happy with my Everlane Cashmere and haven’t found that it pills much. It’s better than cashmere I’ve had from J.Crew, Uniqlo and Equipment. I don’t wash my cashmere and only dry clean once a season so the fibres don’t get frayed (I just always wear a base layer). If pills develop they’re easy to comb or snip off. I find they happen mostly where my arm rubs on my side. Hope that helps!
coming from somewhere where no one really needs a coat i still get excited when it gets cold enough to wear one. however we’re now in summer so i can only look on enviously. but summer has its consolations!
Ah, I know what you mean! I get excited when the temps dip at first but the novelty wears off pretty quick haha. Enjoy the summer sun for us!
Hi Lee! This is fantastic, thank you for sharing! Just wondered if you’d mind if I ask what size you wear in the aritzia cocoon coat? Thanks so much!
Thanks so much Lori! I wear a size Small in the Aritzia Cocoon Coat and it’s perfect for over sweaters and warm tops. It’s also quite warm. Hope that helps! xo
This is so fun to scroll through, Lee – thank you for your work on this! Which is your favorite wool coat and why? Finally, which wool coat is the most practical – i. e. You can fit the most things under it? I have wide shoulders and hate feeling like my shoulders are stuck in a coat because I’m wearing a sweater. Thanks for the input!
Thanks Lindsay! Good question, I would have to say my long camel coat is my most worn/most practical. It’s a bit oversize so blazers and sweaters fit well underneath and the simple cut and long length make it warm and classic. Unfortunately, the brand seems to only sell locally now (it’s from Spitalfields market in London, England). My suggestion would be to look for a vintage camel coat as they used to make the shoulders roomier and you can find some beautiful wool coats for much less. The first place I’d look is ETSY for vintage coats. I hope that helps!
Wow!! Lee this post was so helpful ! Really enjoyed, can’t stop looking @ all the outfit ideas! You’ve really outdone yourself(again)!! ?❤️??
Ah! Thanks so much Linda! Really happy to hear the post is helpful for you 🙂
You are the queen of coats and elegant color palettes, Lee! for a summer-loving gal who is struggling to layer, this is so thorough and helpful. XO
Your coats are all so nice. Especially the camel ones! I hate having to ruin a cute outfit with my practical winter boots. Ugh!
Thanks Sarah, ah, I know the feeling! Cozy toes make winter much more bearable though 😛
Your style is beautiful but I don’t know if you realize that for most of us “regular” working people, $500 boots and coats are out of reach financially. I love to get styling ideas from you but most of your clothes and boots are very expensive. I guess your blog is intended for a different financial “class”.
Hi Sandi, Thanks for the kind words about my style. I appreciate your feedback about price point and I do try to share a variety of them within my outfits, in my sources and advise when personal favourites are on sale. I’m a regular working person as well and often purchase investment items during sales 🙂 Good quality, fairly made boots and coats can certainly come with a higher price point but I believe they are worth it. Many of the pieces I’ve shown here are several years old and will be in my closet for many years yet. I hope this post helps inspire some new outfits within your closet. Thanks for reading! Xo
