LIFE LATELY – SPRING 2019

05.30.19

It’s been an eventful couple of months since I last checked in with a Life Lately post. In mid March we returned home from our adventure out west and jumped right back into Ontario life and business as usual. Dave completed a kitchen renovation for a local client (that I helped design) and has just begun some updates on our outdoor space. We threw a milestone birthday party for my Dad and have been filling our lungs with as much warm spring air as we possibly can.

Between exciting projects and a full schedule, life had some hard times in store this spring too. My family said goodbye to a very special person at the end of March. Grief has a weird way of presenting itself sometimes but I’m just trying to let my emotions run their course. It seems it’s often the low points in life that remind us to keep chasing dreams, be present for the ones we love and make the most of every damn day. Overall, I’m feeling very grateful for the time I’ve had with friends and family so far this year.

I hope you’ll enjoy this little update and a few family photos with me today!

FAMILY

Style Bee - Life Lately - Spring 2019

Earlier this spring we said goodbye to my beautiful grandmother, Sylvia Vosburgh. She died at the age of 93 having lived a wonderful life filled with family, friends, laughter, resilience and positivity. My grandmother was a special person to everyone who knew her and she had the unique ability to make people feel truly seen and loved.

She was a wiz with names, never forgot a birthday and always wanted to know how everyone else was doing. She dressed beautifully, loved animals, travelled thoughtfully, laughed heartily, baked like a champ and always made people feel at ease. Sylvia was also as feisty as she was a lady and never to be underestimated in a card game. She certainly passed on her love of style and I can only hope I inherited some of the other traits that made her such an incredible woman!

Love you always my bright and beautiful Grammie.

On a happier family note, we celebrated my Dad’s 70th birthday last weekend and had an absolute blast. The party was filled with over 75 of his dearest friends and family members from all the way back to his college years. We had blues tunes blasting, embarrassing stories spilling, tasty bites getting gobbled, cold drinks aplenty and dozens of hilarious old photos.

I’m so glad we had a chance to celebrate my Dad in such a special way and I realized, more than ever, just how much he’s loved in the same ways as my Grandma was.

Happy Birthday Dad! Love you lots!

RENOVATIONS

We’ve officially begun our outdoor renovations after years of planning, saving and deliberating. We’re building a new shed in the yard and completely revamping our back deck and outdoor entertainment space. I’ve been putting together the final inspiration board for the project and I’m so excited to share our progress. Tune into my IG stories for updates over the next few weeks!

While Dave has been busting his butt outdoors, I’ve been working on some indoor updates too. We’re doing a proper living room revamp this summer but for now I’ll share a peek at my latest interior obsession, hanging planters!

I picked these ones up at little plant shop called Parlour while we were in PEC (catch our trip here). Wall hooks are from LOWES.

Of course our personal projects couldn’t begin until our professional ones were complete and I’m so thrilled with how the latest kitchen renovation turned out. Dave did an incredible job bringing the project to life and creating a space that the family will love to cook and gather in for many years to come. He puts his all into his work and really cares about leaving his clients with a space that’s perfect for them, right down to the smallest details. You can see more of his work @RuhlBuilds.

I had the opportunity to help design the kitchen and I’ll be sharing a full post, complete with before and afters very soon! For now, here’s a sneak peek iPhone shot.

STYLE

I’ve been meaning to put together a style post on the looks I’ve been wearing lately but for now here are a few snaps from days when the weather has been cooperating. Classics, comfort and a bit of feminine flair have been my style themes this spring. I’ve enjoyed wearing lots of fresh whites, skirts, wrap tops and even got to bring out some shorts a couple of times already!

I’ve uploaded my spring closet to the the Shop My Closet section on the site so you can take a look at what I’ve been working with this season. I love that you can sort the collection by item category (ie: pants, tops, shoes, dresses) or price point to zero on in what might be useful in your own wardrobe.

FUR PALS

As usual moments with my furry family members are always some of best. Dobby has been loving the spring smells, longer walks, muddy shores and having Dave working close by means we get to visit him at lunch! We’ve been savouring warm afternoon weekends outside and when I stop to sniff blossoms, he checks in on the latest from the canine bulletin boards (aka: tree trunks).

Evie is, of course, relatively unamused by us and prefers to enjoy her life of leisure on bedspreads and pillows with the occasional cameo during photoshoots. Oh, and the drowning of her toy bunny in Dobby’s water bowl seems to be a daily ritual.

SPRING FOLIAGE

I’ll wrap up this life lately with my usual collection of leafy greens, fresh flowers and some foliage from the scenes unfurling around our neighbourhood. I just love this time of year and how the air smells so fragrant and fresh. Promise abounds!

Random question…I’m curious…is your Dobby named after the Harry potter Dobby? I’m in the midst of re-reading them with my 7 year old daughter now, so its just on my brain these days. haha. Also I just bought a set of plant hangers…but have yet to put them up! I think I will need some of these wall hooks…they look perfect! I am sorry to hear of your grandmothers passing.

    • Lee the Bee says:

Hey Sara! Haha I get that question often and the answer is yes! Dobby is our little loyal house elf with giant ears 🙂 Enjoy the HP re-read! xo

    Hi Lee!

I am sorry for your loss, it is always difficult to say goodbye to a person that has meant so much to you, I still have a hard time when I think about mine, even though she passed two years ago. But I comfort myself knowing that by thinking about her, finding her in moments or routines, and speaking about her to my daughter, I find peace and can feel her closer still today.

Your personal projects seem fun and exciting. Can’t wait to see how that reno turns out. My spring has been mostly quiet. I have been nesting, as I prepare for daughter No. 2 in four weeks!

Lots of love from Spain to Canada!

Lovely post. Sorry about the loss of your lovely grammie…she looked beautiful and had a long life which is awesome!! Dobbers is cute as usual and Evie is darling, even if unimpressed, lol!! That’s cats for ya!! Beautiful shots of flowers and foliage…you should sell them to Wallpaper apps…or start your own!!! Gorgeous!! I am a long time fan and just love all your posts whether on your blog, Instagram, etc.. keep them coming!!! 😘❤️❤️

  4. Kat says:

That picture of Evie is EXACTLY why I love cats. “What is the meaning of this nonsense?!”

    • Lee the Bee says:

haha so true! Pure disapproval. She always comes to visit me when I’m taking photos but wants no part of it. Cats are certainly opinionated little creatures!

  5. Lex says:

    Hi Lee,
I’m so sorry for your loss. Grandmothers are such special people. I felt that my grandmother always had time for me, and I really felt the loss when she passed.
Also, I love the photos of Dobby! He has such a sweet little face.
    Take care,
    Lex

    • Lee the Bee says:

Thank you Lex. I’m sorry for your loss too. I feel so lucky that I had all the time I did with my Grandmother. It’s a special connection for sure.

Dobby is such a good buddy 🙂 Thanks for reading! xo

  6. Sarah Winton says:

Your grandmother sounds like a lovely and interesting person. So sorry for your loss. As always, all of your photos are gorgeous.

  7. Nipa says:

Sorry for your loss, Lee. Hope you’ll find comfort in your memories of your grandmother. I wish I’d known my grandmothers more, but they lived far away and both passed by the time I was 13. Love your spring floral photos… what is it about flowers that just makes you want to smile!? Nipa

    • Lee the Bee says:

Thank you Nipa. I feel so lucky that I got to spend time with my grandmother throughout my life. I’m sorry that you didn’t have much time with yours. Oh gosh I know, spring flowers give me so much inspiration after months of winter. I have been trying to stop and smell some every day! Thanks for reading and have a great weekend. xo
