Everlane Favourites – Old & New

06.19.19

Today I’ll be sharing four easy-going summer outfits I love to wear that each convey laid-back elegance and give a nod to timeless style and wardrobe classics.

This post is sponsored by Everlane and I’m thrilled to be working with them. I’ve been an Everlane customer since early 2014 when I ordered some simple cotton tees and the canvas weekender, which I still use often. While the brand’s offerings have evolved over the last 5 years, Everlane remains my #1 go-to for timeless, quality, affordable closet heroes that are made thoughtfully and sold with transparency.

I thought that a fun way to introduce our partnership would be to highlight a few of the Everlane pieces I’ve had in my closet for several seasons and a couple that are new but earning their place in a hurry! In this post I’ll be covering:

I hope you’ll read on and enjoy!

MODERN LOAFERS + CIGARETTE JEAN

Style Bee - Everlane Favourite - Old & New

THE MODERN LOAFER

IN MY CLOSET SINCE – Early 2014, bought by me.

SIZE I WEAR – I wear my usual size 7 in the modern loafer even though the site suggests ordering a 1/2 size up. I have a narrow foot and instep so the fit works well for me but many customers have noted that they needed the 1/2 size of additional room. I also had the toe area stretched for a little more wiggle room.

WHY I LOVE THE MODERN LOAFER – These shoes are essentially my version of a ballet flat. The design is timeless and clean making them immune to changing trends. The construction is excellent and the materials are high quality so they’ve needed very little maintenance or repair despite their many years of use. They’ve been soaked in the rain, covered in dirt, scuffed, scratched and left totally neglected for months, yet, somehow they always buff right up!

The modern loafer seems to work with almost everything in my closet and I have them in two colours, black and olive. I love them best with a black work pant or cropped jeans but I’m inspired to try them with a midi dress and blazer and even a fitted skirt and long sleeve tee.

AUTHENTIC STRETCH CIGARETTE JEAN

IN MY CLOSET SINCE – Late winter 2019, bought by me.

SIZE I WEAR – 27 Regular. I have this denim style in a size 27 and I’m typically between a 26 and 27 in Everlane denim. These run TTS and are intentionally fitted through the waist, hip and thigh. The leg falls straight from the knee down for the classic ‘cigarette’ shape I’ve always loved on Audrey. Usually I need to have the waist taken in on fitted pants but these fit perfectly, right out of the box! I’m about 5’7 and 125 lbs for reference.

WHY I LOVE THE HIGH RISE CIGARETTE JEAN – For the most part I’ve had good luck with Everlane’s denim releases but the authentic stretch, high rise cigarette is the style I’ve worn most. I love the curve hugging fit and a straight, cropped leg for a contemporary take on a vintage shape. I also appreciate the effect of a button fly on a high rise style because it helps the front lay flatter than a zip fly.

I call these my ego boost jeans because no matter how I’m feeling, whether it’s fabulous or a little less than optimal, when I reach for these they never let me down. You might remember the black version of these from my Fall 10×10 and once I got hooked on those I decided to order a second pair over the winter. If Everlane releases more washes, I’ll be ready!

MICRO RIB SCOOP-NECK TEE + DAY CROSSOVER SANDAL

Style Bee - Everlane Favourite - Old & New

MICRO RIB SCOOP-NECK TEE

IN MY CLOSET SINCE – Spring 2019, bought by me.

SIZE I WEAR – I typically wear a small in Everlane basics and find that a size small in the micro rib styles is fitted but not too tight. I’ve worn and washed this one many times now and it always comes up great. I hang dry so as not to shrink or damage the elastane, which makes it fit so comfortably.

WHY I LOVE THE MICRO RIB TEE – I got hooked on the micro rib long sleeve as a base layer over the winter and when warmer weather came around I decided to add a spring version.

It’s the perfect not-so-basic basic that pairs well with just about anything you care to try. I love this top with jeans and a block heel for an average day out or a full linen skirt with simple slides on the weekend.

There are three details that qualify this piece as an ‘elevated basic’ for me. The first one being the unique 1/3 sleeve length design. The next being the centre back seam that’s unexpected and modern. The third is the open, elegant scoop neckline. (details shown below)

DAY CROSSOVER SANDAL

IN MY CLOSET SINCE – This spring, gifted.

SIZE I WEAR – I wear my usual size 7. It fits comfortably but I wish it was a bit tighter on my foot. When I’ve worn them in the rain I find my foot slips around a lot too.

WHY I LOVE LIKE THE DAY CROSSOVER SANDAL – When I saw that Everlane was claiming a blister free break-in with these sandals I was skeptical but loved the design enough to test them out. Turns out, they weren’t exaggerating and the crossover straps really are ridiculously soft and comfy! After a gruelling Day Glove break-in (see my review here) this was a pleasant surprise.

I wish the footbed had a little bit of cushion as I find it’s pretty hard on my heel after walking for a while on pavement. They’re great for a moderate amount of walking, beaching, cottage hangs and around the house stuff but they’re not my pick for a long day of trekking.

> SHOP THE DAY CROSSOVER SANDAL – ($88 USD) – The mocha leather is almost gone but I love the camel colour.

COTTON CREW + CHEEKY JEAN

Style Bee - Everlane Favourite - Old & New

COTTON CREW

IN MY CLOSET SINCE – Early 2017, bought by me.

SIZE I WEAR – I wear a size small in the cotton crew for a slim fit but sometimes I’ll size up in Everlane tees for a more relaxed look.

WHY I LOVE THE COTTON CREW – Every closet can use some basic tees and the cotton crew is a great staple. I’ve tried lots of classic tees and this one is always in my top 3. I really like the weight of this cotton, which is somewhere in between a tissue tee and a more traditional thickness. The lighter weight makes it great for layering and tucking but it’s not so thin that it feels as though it will fall apart. I’ve washed and dried this t-shirt more times than I can count and it always comes up like new!

As for design details, I like the true crew neck because hits right at the base of the neck. I think the length is best for fully tucking into pants rather than wearing out or french tucked. Being so soft it has a nice drape and some movement compared to stiffer cotton tees, which can feel a bit bunchy when tucked in.

> SHOP THE COTTON CREW – ($18 USD) – This colour is no longer available but the cotton crew comes in over 10 other colours.

CHEEKY JEAN

IN MY CLOSET SINCE – Fall 2018, bought by me.

SIZE I WEAR – I wear a size 26 Regular in the cheeky jean and though they’re snug at first the soft denim relaxes with wear for more of a slim fit as opposed to a snug fit like the cigarette jean. I did have the waist taken in on these for a tailored fit. The denim on these is thicker than the cigarette and has only 2% elastane compared to 13% so they have some give but not a ton. For size reference, I’m about 5’7 and 125 lbs.

WHY I LOVE THE CHEEKY JEAN IN BONE: A great pair of white denim is NOT easy to come by, with the biggest issue being show-through. Luckily these deliver when it comes to that. I can tuck a dark top into them and not worry about it showing and I can even get away with light colours of underwear if my nudes run out.

The bone denim is super soft so they’re great for all-day wear and I never feel like they’re digging in or restrictive. That said, they do stretch out a fair amount after a long day yet always regain their shape in the wash. I also find them breathable enough to wear on hot days so if I can’t be bothered to shave my legs, these are a great option!

WIDE LEG CHINO + BLOCK HEEL SANDAL

Style Bee - Everlane Favourite - Old & New

WIDE LEG CHINO

IN MY CLOSET SINCE: Spring 2019, bought by me.

SIZE I WEAR – I have the wide leg chino in a size 4, which is my usual numerical pant size from Everlane. I had the waist taken in slightly so I wouldn’t need a belt and find that the fit is great through the hip and thigh. I’m about 5’7 and 125 lbs for reference.

WHY I LOVE THE WIDE LEG CHINO – You can read my in-depth review of the wide leg chino here and my thoughts since then remain the same. They’re my favourite wide leg style that Everlane has done and based on the reviews, they seem to be a crowd favourite too.

For such a tailored fit they are very comfortable and the soft cotton fabric is breathable enough for summer but substantial enough for spring and fall too. I love them with a simple crop tank and minimal sandals right now but you can see a whole bunch of styling ideas in my review as well.

> SHOP THE WIDE LEG CHINO ($68 USD)

DOUBLE STRAP BLOCK HEEL SANDAL

IN MY CLOSET SINCE – Spring 2019, gifted.

SIZE I WEAR – I have these sandals in a size 7 and they run TTS. The heel height is great for walking and the leather used on the straps is very soft. I did get a blister on my pinky toes after the first wear but a couple of wears later they were broken-in enough to go band-aid free. The outsole is slip resistant so I can wear them without stress on smooth surfaces. The ankle has an adjustable buckle and a bit of elastic makes them easy to slip on and off.

WHY I LOVE THE BLOCK HEEL SANDAL – I was looking for a chic, comfortable, barely there style of sandal for the summer to wear with cropped jeans, wide leg pants and various dresses. When I saw this style I felt they’d be a great answer for that. I debated between the Sand Lizard and Bone but opted for the latter because I felt it was neutral enough while still adding a touch of contrast. If I could change one thing it would be to make the heel monochrome in the same bone white.

I like the look of a mule sandal for ankle flattery but the heel strap really makes these easy to wear without worrying about slippage. The top arch strap hits low on the top of the foot, which visibly elongates the lower leg. Overall I’m really happy I added these and find them super comfy and versatile!

  1. Amy says:

Hi Lee! Love this post! I’m about to buy the Everlane Modern Loafer in the taupe color you wore in another post, but I have found there Are multiple colors in these, and I don’t know which one to buy. There is a previous tan and another olive/tan color, but in this post you mentioned you own black and olive. I’m so confused. You are sure they are the olive color and not the tan??😆😘😂 Haha! Thanks, Lee!!!

    • Lee the Bee says:

Hi Amy! The Olive pair I have is an old colour, which was quite green. If it’s not listed now it’s probably discontinued. I think tan or taupe is a great choice though! Hope that helps. Xo

  2. MariA says:

I am searching for summer loafers like Bruno Marc Shoes Review(Anaconda Leg) for myself, and nice to know about modern loafers from your end. A few more suggestions for senior citizen like my mother will be highly appreciated.

    Regards
    Maria

  3. Bridget says:

I laughed out loud at “ankle flattery!” I also love Everlane, but have found that my tees from them get armpit stains quicker than my other shirts. Have you had that experience at all?

  4. Bekah says:

Beautiful looks! Thanks for sharing. Are your cheeky jeans the ankle length or the regular length?

  5. Katy says:

Ooh thank you for reminding me how good Micro Rib tees look with elastic waist items! I agree they are so soft and flattering.

Thank you for including so many covered-leg options! Not all of us can be “shorts people”.

I’m continually inspired by your classy style!

  6. Morgan says:

I love these pieces. I have become an Everland fanatic this year when scaling down my wardrobe and focusing on what I want my personal style to be into my 30s. I wear mainly black so I’m excited to branch out into other neutral colors even if they’re just a blue jean.
    Thank you for your reviews!

    • Lee the Bee says:

Thanks for reading Morgan! Glad to hear you’ve found some great pieces from Everlane as well. They know how to do staples, that’s for sure! A black base wardrobe is so versatile and you only need to add the odd bit of pattern or colour to keep it fresh! xo

  7. Sarah Winton says:

I’m such a fan of Everlane. I only have 4 pieces from them but they are on constant rotation. I haven’t tried their shoes yet, I have wide feet, but I am sorely tempted by the loafers.

    • Lee the Bee says:

That’s great Sarah! My Everlane staples are always in heavy rotation too. You might consider the Day Loafer as I think they’ll be better for a wider range of foot widths. They just came back in stock and I’ve very tempted by the caramel!

  8. Kimberly says:

Hi Lee, I definitely would wear each outfit you’ve shown on this post. You first introduced me to this clothing line in 2016 and I’ve been purchasing clothes from the company ever since. Everlane has reasonably priced, great quality clothing and I like that the company is transparent. Thank you for your inspirational post showcasing your Everlane favourites.
