For the last few months (okay more like a year) I’ve been on the hunt for some new bedding. Now more than ever, I’ve been thinking carefully about every investment we make in our home and our bedding supply is due for an update.
Today I’m sharing a round up of the 7 best bedding options I’ve come across that are all Canadian-based brands, thoughtfully & sustainably producing high-quality bed linens. Many focus exclusively on linen (for a number of good reasons) while others offer a range of fabric options such as organic cotton, flannel, hypo-allergenic micro fibres and plenty more.
Read on to see the following info on each one:
- Fabric options
- Price for a full set
- Key info about each brand
- Plus, what made them standout to me!
At the end of the post I’m sharing which brand I’ll be testing out first!

SO WHICH BRAND AM I TRYING OUT FIRST?
I haven’t placed an order just yet but FLAX SLEEP has been on my radar for the longest. Since I’m currently looking for linen and they’ve got great reviews, I’d like to test theirs out and I’m a fan of the colour options available. The price point is right for our budget and I love that they’re female-founded by three friends!
SEE MY REVIEW HERE
Bedding shown in these images is an old set from Matteo that we’ve enjoyed for years. A great US-based option for sure!
THANKS FOR TUNING IN!
Hopefully this post points you to a great source for your next bedding investment!
Feel free to share any questions or recommendations you may have in the comments below.
Hey just thought I’d pop in and say that Benji seats are made in Shanghai, China. I found this out when I reached out to their customer service chat to find out where they were made. It’s apparently a family-run business there that the brothers have personally visited and are satisfied with. I personally chose not to purchase from them partly due to this but also because microfiber pollution is responsible for much of the pollution in our oceans and I was not feeling aligned with that I opted for a different material instead.
Hi, thank you for your blog. I have checked out every company’s website you suggested. They are all very interesting and I will probably order sheets from one of these companies.
I am looking for a new bedspread preferably Canadian made of linen or cotton velvet but I don’t wish to get a duvet cover. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi Louise, My suggestion for a bedspread would be the Cotton Quilted Comforter by KOTN. It’s currently sold out but there is a waitlist open. Another spot to try would be Au Lit Fine Linens as they have a wide range of products. I’m sure some of the other brands in the post have some good bedspread options too. Hope that helps!
Thank you for making a post about sustainable brands in Canada. I was having the hardest time finding sheets made sustainably from a Canadian brand.
Hi Sierra, So happy you found this post helpful!
This might be weird but just wondering where your bed itself is from. Love the frame!
Not at all! The bed frame is a DIY project by my husband from many years ago but this one has a similar shape and feel to it.
Thank you very very much for your homework!!! I was just starting to do some research on Canadian and linen bedding. One question……I see a vast difference in prices. Is there a difference in quality or softness? Did you not find the price ranges to be significant? I am not too concerned with the cost but neither do I want to pay for a name. The old adage “you get what you pay for” keeps coming to mind. Can you give me your thoughts please?
Thank you
Completely unrelated but do you kind sharing where you got your bedside tables from? Thank you!
Hi! Those were a DIY by my husband so I don’t have a source for you, sorry. Kroft Studio does some nice floating shelves though!
Wanted to say thank you for compiling this list! Super helpful as I am looking for made in Canada (or at least Europe) sheets by a Canadian company! I was ready to purchase the Flax Sleep sheets but then saw “Designed in Vancouver, Canada; produced in Guangdong, China”. The search continues! Perhaps Flax Planet or Skylark and Owl…
But really appreciate this list!! Thank you!
My favourite sheets but aren’t on this list is Skylark+Owl (www.skylark-owl.com). They are a Canadian brand but source linens from all over the world.
Thanks for this reco Ashley! S+O look like a great addition to the list.
Hi Lee..
Regarding the Benji Sleep linens, I purchased the sheet set and duvet cover which I love, bus was so disappointed to find a MADE IN CHINA tag attached to everything. Thought I was supporting a Canadian start up so was sorely disappointed. I won’t be purchasing anything further.
Thanks for the feedback on Benji Kim. Glad you like the sheets! They’re a Canadian startup but unfortunately not made in Canada. There was no concrete information about where they’re made on the Benji site so I appreciate you sharing that. xo
This is exactly what I’ve been scouring the internet for, thank you for putting together such helpful and clear comparisons. Just a heads up, the Au Lit Fine Linens brand bedding IS made in Canada and Europe, but their website also has a lot of imported products from other companies, which are not clearly marked as such. I was recently disappointed with a purchase from Au Lit, expecting Canadian or at least European made products (based on the site’s constant advertising of being 100% Canadian/hand made) and instead received bedding with a Made in China label. Looking to replace with something from Maison Tess or Flax Planet — thanks for the recommendations!
Thank you for this post! I have been looking for new bedding for ages, and after reading this the other day I clicked right onto Flax Sleep and ordered the sheet and duvet set in the blush colour. It arrived yesterday and after washing all of it it’s now on my bed looking gorgeous. The linen is amazing, so soft yet sturdy. I also live in Guelph (near St. George’s Park) and all of your Canadian recs are so valuable! Thank you for your thoughtful and well-written blog. xx
I LOVE my Flax Sleep sheets and quilt! They are the first ones I’ve found inside Canada that were exactly what I was searching for. Simple, beautiful, high quality, perfect. Love this Canada round-up, Lee! Thank you!
Hi Lee! All this makes me wonder whether Canada grows any linen? These recommendations look really wonderful but what they call “local” is not quite so if they import the fabric from overseas right?
Greetings from a regular reader – I rarely make my presence known but I love your blog and I salivate a lot over the things you show here. I live in Europe and try to shop local as well (even if I cannot use your recs, your approach is really inspiring), but God knows I’ve been tempted!
Hi Kaja! Thanks for popping in to say hello! From what I’ve gathered, Canada doesn’t have a great climate for growing flax for material uses but Europe (France & Belgium in particular) has a much more optimal climate for it. That being the case it seems our only option is to source from overseas. There must be lots of great European linen brands to choose from!
Thanks so much for reading, I hope you’re staying safe and doing okay where you are! xo
This is so timely! I was just starting to do some research on bedding and this makes it so much easier! Thanks Lee!
So happy this post is helpful for you Karin! I know it’s pretty overwhelming to sift through all the options currently available. Brooke Linen, Primary Goods and Matteo would be my top US-based choices if that helps too. Have a great week! xo
I will have to check out these brands! I bought a linen duvet cover and pillow cases a while ago and thought I would love it but it never did live up to my Pinterest photo dreams. I have decided to go back to cotton – just love that feel of cool, crisp cotton. Thank you for this post!
I love cool, crisp cotton sheets too. Nothing like sliding into a cold set in the summertime! Thanks for tuning in! xo
I love your “buying guides”–thanks for putting in the time! I’d wanted to pick up some linen sheets for ages; while there are zillions of beautiful choices out there on the web, I wasn’t seeing too many Canada-based options, and I’m sick of paying exorbitant duties/brokerage fees! Besides, now more than ever is probably a good time to shop local.
So glad you found this post helpful! Thanks for reading Sarah! xo
Thanks for this list! I hadn’t seen a bunch of these.
I own a queen set of the Flax Sleep linen, and I love them! I thing the dimensions are a bit off from my duvet, but it just makes for a fluffier comfortable!
Great to know you love your Flax Sleep set. I’m even more excited to try them out now 🙂 Thanks Elizabeth! xo
