STYLE BEE - GETTING COMFY WITH CORINNE

GETTING COMFY WITH CORINNE

04.30.19

Remember back in early 2017 when I created a loungewear capsule? It was an early attempt at building a proper capsule within my closet and it has been such a positive part of my day-to-day ever since. In fact, it has served me so well that it’s been over two years since I considered making any adjustments!

I owe much of my comfy capsule success to the pieces I have from Corinne, a clothing line founded by Susan Kim, who is both the designer and maker behind every piece from this unique collection of casual styles. The full line, including the fabrics, is made in LA and the cool California vibes definitely come through. The ingredients that make Corinne special are the effortlessly elegant silhouettes, approachable price points (everything is under $150 USD) and French Terry, a super soft material that is unlike anything I’ve felt since.

Today I’m thrilled to be getting comfy again, trying a few styles from the Corinne SS19 collection and sharing how I’d wear them in and out! Read on to see which one I’m hanging onto and the key details that make each of them special.

THEO WRAP ONESUIT

I couldn’t wait to try out the Theo Wrap Onesuit and it is just as fun to wear as I’d hoped! I’ve considered adding lots of jumpers to my loungewear capsule over the years but the unique Toffee colour and clever design are what made this a special contender.

I wasn’t sure how this one would go on or fit given that it has no zips or clasps but it slips on without issue thanks to the clever wrap design and stretchy French Terry fabric (which is machine washable btw). I can see myself reaching for this piece all the time as an easy slip-on-and-go outfit for casual work days, cottage vacations or on weekends when we bike to the market or have a pancake feast in our yard.

FIT NOTE: I’m wearing a size Small, which is true to the size guide. It fits relaxed up top and gently hugs my hips/butt which measure about 37 in. For a more relaxed fit I could wear a M.

OTHER NOTES: In a perfect world I’d love it if the centre seam fell a bit higher and closer to my natural waist but overall I think the torso fit on this piece is versatile for a range of body types.

WEARING THE ONESUIT OUT

There are so many ways you could style the Theo Onesuit to make it less lounge and more town. I really like this toffee colour and wanted to play that up so I added my darker woven mules for a bit of tonal repetition in a contrasting texture. A cream coat keeps the look warm but fresh and a round straw tote gives it an instant dose of summer. I finished styling this one by layering my gold necklaces, lots of rings and adding a bangle to give it a bit of polish and some subtle glam.

I’d wear this number just about any day of the week and I dare say it would be hard to have a bad time!

THE V-NECK MIDI

STYLE BEE - GETTING COMFY WITH CORINNE

Next up we’ve got the V-Neck Midi Dress. Corinne has lots of lovely dresses in the SS19 Collection, like the Amber Flutter Dress and the Finola Pleat Dress but I was stuck on the clean lines and minimal design of this one.

I love the 3/4 sleeve that can be worn past the elbow or rolled up for a shorter length. The midi length is lovely and timeless while the lighter weight French Terry (a thinner fabric than the onesuit above or top below) makes this piece drape beautifully and move easily. I can see this dress working all year round, even in the winter with a pair of tights and boots.

FIT NOTES: I’m wearing a size S in this piece, which is intentionally relaxed. Susan mentioned that I could size down but I wanted a roomy fit and I’m glad I went with this size.

OTHER NOTES: Black French Terry is so timeless, resilient and highly resistant to winkling but it will attract some lint and pet fur so keep that in mind.

As soon as I hung this dress up after my first try on, I knew I wanted to style it belted and paired with lots of brown tones and textures. It’s one of those closet chameleon pieces that can go from ultra low key to art gallery chic in a matter of two or three thoughtful accessories.

Ever since I tried this look earlier in the year I’ve been loving the combo of black and whiskey brown. It has a vintage feel that’s comforting and easy but a boldness at the same time. To dress up the v-neck midi I decided to go all-in on the combo from my tortoise earrings right down to my block heeled slides.

I would gladly wear this one out to a design meeting, dinner with friends, art show, summer party and just about any occasion where I’d like to feel super comfy while still looking polished.

BARDOT PLEAT TOP

STYLE BEE - GETTING COMFY WITH CORINNE
STYLE BEE - GETTING COMFY WITH CORINNE

Last but not least we have the understated but oh-so-lovely Bardot Pleat Top. This piece is one where the design details really shine. I fell in love with the high neckline, gently curved hem, a-line shape and thoughtfully finished shoulders. Not to mention the unexpected genius of a single pleat detail on the back.

I thought it might be a bit on the boxy side but the French Terry (can you tell I’m into this fabric?) drapes and moves so nicely, skimming my frame. For lounging I’d pair this top with my Lela Trouser from my very first collaboration with Corinne(in 2016), which I still have and love. The two work great together and think this easy set would be great for travelling too!

FIT NOTE: I’m wearing the size Small in the Bardot Pleat Top and I really like this fit. I wear a 32C bra and have a 26.5 in waist for reference. It’s fitted in the shoulders but not tight and falls away from my frame through the torso.

The Lela Trouser has been updated with a longer inseam measuring 23 – 24 in depending on the size. The ones I’m wearing have a 22 in inseam so they’re more of a culotte. The Jojo Pleat Trouser has a longer inseam ranging from 24.75 – 27 in.

OTHER NOTES: You’ll likely prefer a cross-back or convertible strap bra with this piece if you want to guarantee your straps won’t show at the back. The cut around the arms is lovely but it is a bit deep on the back so I found my bra straps were peeking out slightly before I switched bras.

The Bardot Top would also be totally passable at work under a relaxed blazer or minimal jacket with black work pants or a fitted skirt (like the Side Slit Skirt).

WEARING THE BARDOT PLEAT TOP OUT

Unlike the first two ‘out’ looks I played around with this top a little more. Being a separate piece it has tons of styling potential. It was great with my white straight leg denim, silk pants and even my new chinos but when I saw it next to these flax linen Florence pants I had to give them a shot. To give the look a bit of extra oomph I chose to add a slim tortoise hairband (to match my bangles) and decided to keep the base of the look as light and monochrome as I could with bone leather sandals and a mini cross-body bag.

I love how this one came together and feel like it would be the perfect day or night look for the summer season ahead. It’s comfy enough to work in but put-together enough for a meeting or lunch downtown and definitely fun enough to party in!

PS. The rug shown in this post is vintage but I found some similar options available at West Elm and The Citizenry for anyone interested. The nomad baskets were a gift from EQ3 and they’re great for storage in my office.

The Theo Wrap Onesuit, Bardot Pleat Top & V-Neck Midi were loaned to me in exchange for this coverage and the piece I chose to keep was gifted. Hi Lee!
This post comes perfectly after your last one on working from home!!
It gave me all the urge to restart thinking about my lounge capsule. For more than a year now I have been slowly working on a lounge capsule that is comfy to work in, yet polished enough to open the door to the postman and quickly get outside to take my daughter to school.
My favourite piece here is the wrap onesuit. Made me think about the possibility of adding the word elegant to the combo of comfy and polished.
Also, I have always been a white and black girl, never noticed it until I worked on my colour palette, so cognac is on my mind now!
    As always, thanks Lee!

  2. Lindsey R says:

Hi Lee, what size are your Lela trousers? I’m nervous about ordering – I’m usually a small, but I’m larger than the model who is wearing a small. There are also no returns or exchanges on discount codes, I think, which ups the uncertainty. Thanks!

    • Lee the Bee says:

Hey Lindsey, I have the small but could def wear a medium for a more relaxed fit in the hip/waist. The material is very stretchy so it depends how snug you want them. Susan is awesome and I’m sure she can advise if you send your measurements or have any questions. Hope that helps!!

  3. Sarah Winton says:

I totally have a lounge wear capsule! It’s definitely one of my favourite parts of my wardrobes. All the Corrine pieces are gorgeous but I love the Theo Wrap Onesuit in black. Gotta love a onesie!

    • Lee the Bee says:

Oh I love that you have a loungewear capsule too Sarah! I can’t believe how much it’s helped my day-to-day to just know where my comfy stuff is and always have a cozy set to slip into 🙂 Totally agree that onesies are awesome! xo

  4. Amy says:

I love the pleated top. I love the jumpsuit too, but I fear where the waist would hit me. I have a short crotch to waist length and larger bust line. Do you think the top and pants could be worn in the same brown color and look OK? I am also older (late 50’s) and a redhead.

    • Lee the Bee says:

Hey Amy! Great questions. Yes, I think the pleated top and the Lela trouser in Toffee would pair really nicely as set (the Jojo pleated pant is great too but I’d opt for the more minimal style)! I’m super temped to get those pants myself 🙂 I think the Toffee colour would look so good on a red head too! I actually just stumbled onto this pin and she’s wearing a similar colour top with long read hair, it looks so lovely. I’d pair that look with a sandal and a bag in fresh light neutrals like cream or ivory to give it a bit of contrast and some summer vibes. I hope that helps!

  5. Julia says:

    Hi Bee!
What do you think of the bright orange jumpsuit? Is it something that can be worn regularly?
    Thanks,
    Julia

    • Lee the Bee says:

Hey Julia 🙂 I’m so glad you like the Poppy colour! I came really close to trying a piece in it but I knew it would be a bit too far outside my usual palette. I think that piece is totally wearable if you’re into bright tones.

I would check out Corinne’s Instagram for more photos of the Poppy since it might be coming off more fluorescent online than in real life. This post shows all the colour swatches together for better comparison: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bve69zhBYNv/

      Hope that helps! xo

  6. cynthia says:

I LOVE Corinne – I discovered them at a craft fair in SF two years ago and loved how soft and cozy the fabric was – I ended up not going through with my purchase because the jumpsuit I tried didn’t fit perfectly but I may be reconsidering after your review 🙂

  7. Amanda says:

I love the v-neck midi dress!! Do you mind telling me how tall you are? Thank you for opening my eyes to this brand, I’ve never heard of it before. Looks so comfy!! Can’t wait to try out some pieces ☺️

    • Lee the Bee says:

Hey Amanda, you bet! I’m 5’7 (5’7.5 with really good posture haha). So glad to introduce you to Corinne! The comfort level is off the charts for sure. Hope you love the pieces you try out and thanks for tuning in! xo
